The White Pages and Yellow Pages Community Star – What a great ideas!

At 17 Bright Ideas we are all about celebrating bright ideas and we’ve found a really great one. The White Pages and Yellow Pages have chosen a number of different amazing people to grace their cover this year. The theme of the books is ‘Inspiring Others to Achieve’ and it gives recognition to people who have done something pretty special and inspiring in their community.

Lisa Mills is the amazing person chosen to be on the front cover of the Sunshine Coast White and Yellow Pages.

Lisa’s mission is to offer advice to mums with children with hearing impairments. Deaf since birth, Lisa understand the challenged people with hearing difficulties face, often struggling to overcome communication barriers herself. Also, her husband Steve is profoundly deaf after contracting meningitis when he was three and uses sign language exclusively.

Lisa opened Honeybee Creations – the only local business teaching Sign Language, creative arts and yoga on the Sunshine Coast in 2010. Through her business, Lisa promotes deaf awareness and creating understanding about how to communicate with deaf people and those with communication barriers.

Tomorrow is the beginning of Hearing Awareness Week (24-30 Aug 2014). Lisa has written us a list for 17 Bright Ideas for Communication In Hearing Awareness Week. Take a look and print it out and display the list in your workplace, community or home environment because knowledge leads to understanding.

Congratulations Lisa for being chosen as a White Pages and Yellow Pages Community Star.
